honoring our veterans

The Grille on Main, in cooperation with the Stephen Marra Foundation, is honoring our veterans this July by raising some funds for the VA Volunteer Program. This program helps homeless veterans with many types of needs. Specifically, we will be conducting a drive at the Grille for the following items: backpacks, duffle bags, reading glasses (any magnification), crossword puzzles, Sudoku, books or magazines. In addition, the Grille will be offering a Patriot Cocktail and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the VA. Finally, we will be selling stars to add to our flag at the Grille in $1, $5 or $10 denominations. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you in July!

The Chef's Corner

News from Chef Paul Courtwright...

Summer is finally here, although the temperatures outside haven’t really reflected that yet. One of my favorite things to do during the summer is to set up the grill and barbecue! Here’s one of my favorite barbecue sauce recipes that works well on pork, ribs, beef or chicken.

Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce
1/2 Stick Unsalted Butter
1 Spanish Onion, Diced
4 Garlic cloves, Chopped
3 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
1 Cup Ketchup
1 12 oz Can Dr. Pepper
1/2 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/3 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon White Pepper
2 Teaspoons Chili Powder
1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt

1. Melt the butter and sauté the onion and garlic until soft and golden, about 10 minutes.
2. Add all the other ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
3. Check and adjust seasoning and continue cooking for 25-30 minutes or until it begins to thicken.
4. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Puree sauce.
